Model United Nations

Experience Model UN

Model United Nations is a special form of tertiary student conference where delegates engage in a simulation of the processes and debates of global multilateral institutions and United Nations organs. Delegates must faithfully represent their assigned State through research whilst they discuss, negotiate and collectively formulate solutions to some of the most pressing international issues facing our world today.

Delegates can participate in a wide variety of UN committees, from the archetypal Security Council, the International Monetary Fund, to selected UN General Assemblies. They may also partake as reporters for the International Press Gallery. This BrizMUN innovation allows students to practise journalism in a real-life simulation by covering the proceedings of committees.

Model UN conferences have an established global following. The firsts of its kind were the predecessors of Harvard National MUN and National (American) MUN, which began as simulations of the League of Nations in the 1920s. Since then, MUN has permeated the calendars of would-be diplomats, leaders, and professionals across the world, ranging from university-based conferences like the Sydney University Model United Nations Conference (SydMUN), regional MUNs such as the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference (AMUNC), to international MUNs such as the Harvard World MUN Conference (Harvard WorldMUN) and the prestigious Global Model United Nations (GMUN) organised by the United Nations itself.
