About Us

BrizMUN is the premier Model United Nations (MUN) conference in Queensland and the largest city-based MUN in Australia. It began in 2008 as a collaborative effort between students from the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, and Griffith University. Since then, BrizMUN has doubled in size and continues to attract aspiring youths with a passion for addressing global issues in a diverse range of areas such as international law, economics, peace and security, the environmental sciences and health.

BrizMUN is a great opportunity for students to ‘put theory into practice’. The conference provides them with a platform on which to utilise their academic knowledge through fiery debate, intense negotiation, and diplomatic efforts in the context of real world scenarios.

BrizMUN is also the birthplace of the International Press Gallery, which, through its breaking news reports, ad hoc interviews, comprehensive coverage, and hilarious Twitter up-dates, provides an element of excitement and realism to the conference.

This year, the BrizMUN 2010 Secretariat is working to maintain the growth that previous conferences have fostered in student networking, intellectual exchange and intervarsity cooperation. Through BrizMUN, we promote a culture of youth diplomacy in Brisbane as well as engagement in the community and international affairs.

Conference Theme

The 2010 BrizMUN theme is “Unite the Present, Challenge the Future”. This embodies the challenges that we as members of the global community face as we seek to unite and find pragmatic solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow.

It is also a reflection of the difficulties facing the United Nations and its organs: the challenge of forging common solutions in a world of diverse cultures and opinions, especially with regards to international security, economic crises and environmental decline.

At the heart of BrizMUN, “Unite the Present, Challenge the Future” is also a reminder to delegates that overcoming adversity is the first vital step to solving the problems of an interconnected and globalised world. It further reiterates the necessity of cooperation and planning for the future. Like the gryphon on BrizMUN’s logo, it reflects the fact that we as individuals have the capacity to fly higher and make a positive difference to the world as we see it today.
